ESG Priority Areas

People & Talent

Empowering our workforce

Learning and development is at the core of building human capital and we invest in our people through trainings and capacity building, targeted at upskilling and reskilling our workforce through the Dangote Academy. To ensure business continuity and strengthen localisation, Africa’s future workforce undergo Graduate and Management Trainee programmes, providing young professionals with hands-on technical trainings and cross-functional exposure, creating a clear pathway to building meaningful careers within the business.

Carbon reduction targets

Our Climate Action priorities involve setting climate goals, engaging strategic partnerships and implementing governance frameworks at the highest level, all underscoring our unwavering commitment to ensuring sustainable production. Dangote Cement has committed to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions intensity by 20% by 2030, from the base year of 2021. This decarbonisation target will be achieved through energy efficiency, fossil fuel substitution, process optimisation, and renewable energy integration. A Dangote Tree-to-Forest initiative is also ongoing to reforest degraded forests in our operational locations by 2030, to cater to residual CO2 emissions.

Conservation & management

Dangote Cement continues to integrate responsible water management into its core operations and host communities’ engagement. Reduction in water withdrawal and consumption, as well as improvements in water recycling strategies are driven by a target to reduce water withdrawal by 20% by 2030 compared to the 2021 baseline, with particular attention given to operations located in water-stressed regions.

Local development

Through formal Community Development Agreements and structured social investment programmes, Dangote Cement delivers social impact across four thematic areas – Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure, and Economic Empowerment. Our host communities are long-term partners in shared growth and development.

Waste reduction & reuse

Through the DangCircular initiative, Dangote Cement drives waste reduction, recycling, and reuse, not just within its operations, but in partnership with communities, institutions and government parastatals.  The aim is to reduce waste diverted to landfill whilst creating sustainable economic value from waste.
